The Caregiver, Sydney Sweeney, Fifty-Fifty Films

Sydney Sweeney is conquering Hollywood one promising project at a time. After blowing minds with her performances for Euphoria and The White Lotus, Sweeney is starring in Sony’s Madame Web and Barbarella films. Each project offers Sweeney a new role on the silver screen, highlighting her talents across a spectrum of entertainment. Today, we hear she’ll star in an adaptation of Marcus Kliewer’s short story The Caretaker.

According to DeadlineThe Caretaker tells the harrowing tale of a young woman who accepts a job from Craigslist and quickly discovers her responsibilities go above and beyond an ordinary custodian of health and wellbeing.

In addition to her starring role, Sweeney will produce with her partner Jonathan Davino through her Fifty-Fifty Films studio. Michael Bay and Brad Fuller will produce through Platinum Dunes, with Scott Glassgold producing via Ground Control. Karl Gajdusek is adapting Kliewer’s story. The Caretaker is Kliewer’s second short story to get an adaptation after We Used to Live Here was picked up by Netflix. Kliewer debuted both stories on Reddit, where hungry executives immediately snatched them up.

Fuller and Sweeney recently sold a project called The Registration to Sony and Platinum Dunes. The sale was fast-tracked after Sweeney’s name was attached, speaking volumes about her Hollywood sway. Smoke on the street suggests that eight studios fought over The Registration before Universal swooped in for the seven-figure kill. If Hollywood is content to let Florence Pugh retire as the “It-Girl” of the moment, Sweeney is next in line.

What do you think about Sweeney? Is she the next big thing? Have you ever been a caretaker? I was for several years, and it’s still one of the most rewarding jobs I’ve ever had the pleasure of experiencing. There are days when I miss it, but then I do cool shit here and JoBlo, and remember why I moved on.
