KiKA is a public television channel of ARD and ZDF for children and young people. KiKA is a joint program of the ARD-Landesrundfunkanstalten and ZDF for young viewers from three to 13 years and has been on the air since January 1, 1997. The children's channel of ARD and ZDF is based in Erfurt, the lead is the Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk. At the head of KiKA is the program manager, who is appointed by mutual agreement by the directors of the ARD state broadcasting stations and the director of ZDF.
