Mega is a Chilean free-to-air television channel that began broadcasting on October 23, 1990 as the country's first private television network within the Santiago VHF channel 9, previously occupied by TVN Señal 2 of the Chilean National Television. Founded under the name Megavision, it was controlled since its foundation by Comunicación, Información, Entretenimiento y Cultura Sociedad Anónima (CIECSA), a subsidiary company of the Claro Group. The division also controlled, at that time, 20% of the cable television operator VTR (formerly Metropolis), the South American Steam Company, el Diario Financiero, Viña Santa Rita and Cristalerías Chile.
