Guatemala's Channel 7 began broadcasting on December 15, 1964, and its programming consisted of original productions made by the station, and some foreign series such as Dimensión desconocida or La tremenda corte. Among its own programs was Ritmos de juventud, hosted by Danilo "El Gordo" Sanchinelli, which promoted national rock artists and groups. In the 1970s, Televisiete was the first national channel to broadcast the programs of Mexican comedian Chespirito, which have had high ratings. After the earthquake of February 4, 1976, Canal 7 was the only channel that was on the air hours after the tragic event, and was the medium that broadcast the official messages of Kjell Eugenio Laugerud García's regime. In the 1980s, Channel 7 reached its greatest success in terms of audience due to the transmission of promotional video clips with fashionable songs, the first of them being Oye, by the Dominican July Mateo. It also stood out for its sports programming, such as the transmission of matches of the Guatemalan National Soccer Team, the Guatemalan National Soccer League, the Bundesliga, the Serie A, the Spanish League, the World Cup, among other sporting events.
