DR1 is the first tv channel in Denmark. Originally the channel was called Danmarks Radio or DR after the media house that produced it. It is called the 1 colloquially, after TV 2 began in 1988. The name was changed to DR1 after the launch of Dr's second television channel, DR2, in 1996.
DR1 is Dr's Primary News and current affairs channel, but the channel also broadcasts fact, history and culture programmes, entertainment and films, as well as major joint events such as national football matches
